Straw inlay

Straw inlay is an art very similar to wood marquetry, in which straw replaces wood veneer. The technique originated in the Far East and was imported to Europe in England and France in the 17th century. To obtain a pallet similar to that of wood veneer, wheat or oat straw is split, then soaked in cold, hot or warm water. The strips, once more or less intensively ironed, present a variety of tones ranging from light gold to the darkest dark brown, and the straw can also be tinted.

The Workshop

At the gates of Paris, the factory brings together the best craftsmen often coming from the "Boule" school and uses the noblest materials for the manufacture of products of excellence. Marquetry work requires the use of different species of precious woods cut into delicate shapes, assembled and glued to create a multitude of patterns. Mother-of-pearl, straw and gold inlays are also used as real goldsmith's pieces.

These processes require a great deal of know-how and precision, and these secrets have always been well protected by highly specialised but above all passionate workers.
